SOKOS Wines


In the caves of mythic mountain Kithairona’s were idylls of Greek Gods took place, Zeus and Semele gave birth to Dionysus-Bacchus, God of fertilized powers of Nature and especially of Vineyard and Wine.

If all that is true, the thought that good wine was born on the slopes of Kithairona’s mountain seems exact and supports our position, because there on the Northern slopes lays our winery, at the village of Erythres.

The old traditional winery of Argiris Dodos, built initially in 1969 at Diminio of Korinthos, is transferred in 1983 with dreams, hope and joy from Andreas Sokos and Gianna Dodou-Sokou at Erythres of Attica, in a modern winery for production of quality wines from grapes cultivated for years in the area.

Today, in the 21th century, the Sokos winery is among the biggest, most modern and technologically equipped in Greece. With the same love and respect to tradition, we present you their wines.

 

These wines have been produced on the slopes of Kithaironas Mountain at the ideal altitude of 470 meters. The famous varieties of grapes are matured harvested and bottled by a special method in order to produce these exceptional wines.

Light green-yellow color, high clarity, shiny look, nobble bouquet of aromas, balanced taste with elements of summer fruits, full bodied slightly oily, with balanced dry aftertaste.

Meat with oregano, fish and finger seafood, pasta with red sauces, cold plates.

Nemea has a relatively typical Mediterranean climate, with mild winters, short springs, warm to hot summers (with several days topping 40°C/104°F), and long autumns.

SOIL
Middle of three zones of different elevations, the so-called ‘semi-mountainous’ zone, at elevations of between 450 and 650 meters.

METHOD OF PRODUCTION
Red vinification at medium temperature, preparation in tanks, shift in oak barrels, preparations for maturing in oak barrels.

CHARACTERISTICS
Ruby color, low clarity, shiny look, bouquet of aromas, balanced taste with elements of dry fruits and nuts, full bodied slightly oily, with long-lasting aftertaste of berries.

Peloponnese, semi-mountainous vineyards in Mantinea, at the altitude of 600 meters or more.

CLIMATE
Climate of the area contains a lot of rains and snow in winter, while in summer we may come up to storms and low temperatures. These elements derive in the extended mature period of grapes that is why harvest takes place usually at the end of September or early October.

SOIL
Soil quite poor from clay and lime, but well drained cause of the altitude.

METHOD OF VINIFICATION
Method of white vinification-grapes are harvested in their exact date of mature, transferred to winery in large cages, vinified and fermented in stabilized temperatures, stabilized, controlled analysis, bottled.

CHARACTERISTICS
Even grape has a reddish skin, the wine that comes out has an intense light green color, strong clarity, with characteristic intense aromas (meant, lemon), pleasant acidity, round bodied full of freshness and long lasting aftertaste of early citrus fruits.

ACCOMPANIES
Big grilled fish, seafood with garlic, salads with fruits, grilled white meats.
